This posting is for current and future Licensed Practical Nurse opportunities in both our bilingual (French) and non-bilingual clinics. It will establish a 6-month eligibility list which may be used to fill similar bilingual and non-bilingual Auxiliary on call positions.
Current vacancy: This posting will be used to fill 1 Auxiliary on call position providing coverage for both the Centre de santé Constellation Health Centre and the Whitehorse Walk In clinic.
Preference will be given to Bilingual (French) candidates for future Bilingual (French) positions specific to the Centre de santé Constellation Health Centre.

Our team
Reporting to the various Clinic Managers of the Integrated Health Service’s (IHS) Branch, Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) are health care professionals who work independently or in collaboration with other members of a health care team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care for clients. LPNs provide autonomous care while maintaining professional values including accountability, integrity, transparency and excellence.
This position will service clients of the Centre de santé Constellation Health Centre (CSCHC), Whitehorse Walk-In Clinic (WWIC), and when needed, Yukon Midwifery Clinic (YMC), the Yukon Healthy Living Program (formerly known as the Chronic Conditions Support Program).
Your role
The LPN works closely with health and social care providers located within the various clinics under Integrated Health Service’s (IHS) branch and those practicing in the broader community. IHS LPNs are the key providers of Point of Care Services at the Constellation Health Centre and Whitehorse Walk-in Clinic. These services may include ECGs, sample collections (blood and urine), basic wound care and suture removal, cryotherapy, ear flushes, and injections. LPNs also support new patient intake processes including health history gathering and triaging need for health screenings and future appointments. This position contributes to an environment that is inclusive, non-discriminatory, and is physically, psychologically and culturally safe.
This position may participate in an afterhours schedule to support clinic services outside of regular business hours.

Essential qualifications

- Either registered or eligible to be registered as an LPN in good standing and without restrictions or limitations in Yukon.
- Recently applied knowledge of nursing theory, practices and techniques.
- Experience performing phlebotomy and/or phlebotomy training or certification would be an asset
- Experience performing footcare or ABIs, and/or training or certification for footcare and ABI would be an asset

Conditions of employment
You must meet the following conditions before being hired, or within the time frame noted.
- TB screening
- RCMP Vulnerable Sector security clearance
- Current LPN registration in good standing and without limitations or restrictions in Yukon.
- WHMIS 2015 (within one month of hire)
- Valid CPR Level C or BLS equivalent (within 3 months of hire)
- Successful assessment by French Language Services in French/English language proficiency (Bilingual candidates only)
Job requirements
This job requires you to perform, and/or be exposed to, the following:
- May be required to participate in an afterhours schedule to support clinic services outside of regular business hours
- May be exposed to clients/patients who present in the clinic with symptoms of communicable disease (coughing, sneezing) or with specimens for laboratory diagnosis (bodily fluid/tissue samples) or who may be bleeding as a result of injury or illness.
- The position requires reaching, stooping, bending, carrying, sitting, and walking (awkward postures within these particular positions may also occur). May need to support client transfers, repositioning (partial body weight of 100-250lbs), lifting and carrying of equipment/supplies up to 15kg. Possible exposure to latex may occur on occasion.
- There is the potential of emotional and mental stress when working in a busy environment where people are sometimes required to wait extended periods of time to be seen by one of the collaborative care team. This may include clients/patients that are dissatisfied with service and may become verbally or physically abusive.
- This position lives and works in Whitehorse and is required to rotate between clinics within Integrated Health Services
