This posting is to fill one (1) full time seasonal position (as per Article 15.24 of the Collective Agreement between the Government of Yukon and The Public Service Alliance of Canada, effective January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024). The position works 75 hours bi-weekly, typically from early May to late January.

About the Role
As a member of the Historic Sites Unit, the Historic Sites Inventory Technician is responsible for maintaining and updating the Yukon Historic Sites Inventory (YHSI) database. Reporting to the Senior Historic Sites Planner, this position supports annual field season planning and updates the database through historical research, site inspections, and field surveys. The Technician also provides technical input on development assessment applications by identifying potential impacts to heritage resources and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of, and interest in, Yukon history, as well as a solid understanding of the principles and practices of heritage conservation.

Essential Qualifications

- Post-secondary diploma in heritage conservation, land management, or a related field;
- Experience working in heritage, cultural resources management and/or land and resource management;
- Experience documenting historic sites or other land-based resources in rural and remote settings;
- Experience researching and preparing technical documents and reports to support land management and planning;
- Experience using GIS mapping software.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

Candidates should have and may be assessed on:
- Strong knowledge of Yukon history, geography and relevant legislation (YESAA, Final Agreements, Historic Resources Act);
- Strong analytical skills, including evaluating data and identifying gaps;
- Able to operate effectively in a dynamic, public-facing environment;
- Comfortable using digital communication tools and adopting new technologies.
- Ability to manage workload, meet tight deadlines, with frequent interruptions;
- Proficiency with GIS, Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and database systems;
- Strong interpersonal, and ability to work independently and in a team environment, with professionalism;
- Strong organizational, attention to detail and communication skills;
- Knowledge of backcountry safety practices, with the ability to adapt to changing conditions.
Additional Information
Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license;
- Field Safety Training including Wilderness First Aid, Helicopter safety, Delta 1 training, and UTV training (obtained upon employment).
Job Requirements:
- Travel to remote locations across Yukon using ground, water, and air transportation;
- Ability to camp overnight and complete strenuous or long-distance hikes;
- Ability to lift and carry backpacks and equipment up to 30 lbs.
