Yukon Government controls and administers its natural resources, including its minerals. The Mineral Tenure and Exploration branch is responsible for administration of the Quartz Mining Act, Placer Mining Act and regulations through the Mining Recorder offices located in Whitehorse, Watson Lake, Dawson City and Mayo.
As a member of the Mineral Tenure and Exploration branch, reporting to the Mining Lands Supervisor, this position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the issuance and administration of Decision Documents under YESAA and Mining Land Use (MLU) approvals in the Yukon pursuant to the Placer Mining Act and Quartz Mining Act, regulations and guidelines. This position is responsible for assisting the mining land use application process at the district level; coordinating government response to assessment recommendations on mineral exploration and placer projects; Class 1 notifications; assisting Mining Lands Officers with developing Decision Documents and evaluating, processing and making recommendations for the acceptance or rejection of applications. This position works with the Mining Lands Supervisor to ensure consistency, fairness and efficiency in the process of review and assignment of terms and conditions to MLU approvals by District Mining Lands Officers. This position is also responsible for participating in the development of methods, tools and policies to improve business processes and practices in the Mining Lands program.

Essential Qualifications

- Coursework in public administration, resource management or a related field;
- Experience applying or administering land use or resource legislation and/or regulatory processes;
- Experience with technical writing and editing documents;
- Experience working with Yukon’s mining regulatory and assessment processes would be an asset;
- Experience consulting with Yukon First Nations would be an asset;
- Experience with project review or/and management and providing recommendations would be an asset.
Candidates who have a combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above will be equally considered.

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:
- Organizational and communication skills;
- Strong prioritization and time management skills;
- Oral and written communication skills that demonstrate high levels of tact and diplomacy;

- Proficiency in computer programs, including the MS Office suite and database software;
- Knowledge of Yukon First Nation governments and the duty to consult.
