About the Role
The position requires sound clinical judgment, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to respond confidently in fast-paced and unpredictable situations. We provide comprehensive nursing care within a multidisciplinary correctional healthcare team.
You will work with clients presenting a wide range of health needs, including:

Essential Qualifications:

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN).
- Current RN registration, in good standing, with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority.
- Recent RN experience in an emergency department or rural community health centre is required.
- Recent experience working in an expanded nursing role.
- Recent experience working with addiction medicine, including assessments, initiation of treatment and monitoring.
- Recent experience working with clients with complex mental health needs, including comprehensive assessments, management and individualized treatment plan development and monitoring.
- Experience working in a Correctional intuition would be an asset.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations would be an asset.
Candidates who have education, training, and/or considerable experience equivalent to the essential qualifications listed above may be equally considered.

Conditions of Employment:
Have and maintain:
- Valid Security Clearance, including vulnerable sector (required prior to the first day of work)
- Valid Medical Clearance (required prior to the first day of work)
- Recent TB screening
- Current registration with a Canadian registered nursing regulatory authority
- BLS Certification
- ACLS Certification (to be obtained within the first 6 months of employment)
- TNCC Certification
- CTAS Certification
- ASSIST or equivalent mental health training
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license (required on the first day of work)
Job Requirements:
- Critical deadlines, constant interruptions, and instructions from multiple sources (at times)
- Regular instances of elevated stress due to various emergencies and the need for timely, crucial decision-making
- Working shift work (Days and evenings), including weekends and statutory holidays
- Daily exposure to clients suffering from chronic illnesses and infectious diseases within the confines of the institution
- Potential for physical and/or verbal abuse from volatile/aggressive clients
- Lifting and transferring clients and equipment (can be up to 300 lbs.)
- Standing and walking for extended periods of time
- Transferring heavy emergency equipment during emergency situations, which may involve stairs
- Climbing stairs multiple times throughout the day
- Working with hazardous materials
- Potential exposure to infectious agents in handling and disposing of bodily fluids or treatment of clients with infections
- Maintaining uncomfortable positions if required for emergency care and assessments
